Airports, railroads, and ports are examples of transportation nodes that have a big impact on urban environments and how cities grow. Repurposing these nodes into public spaces after abandonment requires an analysis of their past usage and impact. Planning and designing effectively requires an understanding of the complex procedures that take place before to, during, and following abandonment. This study explores the issue of the abandoned railway line in the port city of Piraeus and makes fresh recommendations based on sustainable standards and ideas. The goal is to create a design strategy that supports the city’s general sustainability while respecting the railway line’s special setting. A comprehensive framework for the sustainable revitalization of the railway line is provided. This framework, which covers urban planning, landscape architecture, architectural interventions, and sustainable practices, tackles site-specific possibilities and difficulties. The abandoned railway line may be turned into a useful and dynamic area that blends in with the city’s urban fabric and advances the city’s overall development by adopting a comprehensive strategy.
Aeroporti, ferrovie e porti sono esempi di nodi di trasporto che hanno un grande impatto sugli ambienti urbani e sul modo in cui le città crescono. La riconversione di questi nodi in spazi pubblici dopo l’abbandono richiede un’analisi del loro utilizzo e impatto passati. Pianificare e progettare in modo efficace richiede la comprensione delle complesse procedure che hanno luogo prima, durante e dopo l’abbandono. Questo studio esplora la questione della linea ferroviaria abbandonata nella città portuale del Pireo e formula nuove raccomandazioni basate su standard e idee sostenibili.
