One area where sustainability is progressing, particularly in the agricultural machinery manufacturing industry, is the employment of biodegradable fluids for lubricating the mechanical components of internal combustion engines and transmissions. The criteria for choosing biodegradable oils over conventional ones must be accurately evaluated to ensure, beside fluid sustainability, dynamic performance, and overall efficiency of the systems under comparable working conditions. In this thesis, a benchmark of a hybrid hydrostatic-mechanical CVT transmission of an Antonio Carraro agricultural tractor will be performed considering two different transmission oils, namely a traditional oil and a biodgradable one. The aim of the benchmark is to evaluate the effective performance of the biodegradable oil with respect to the traditional one with the aim to understand the feasibility of its employment as part of the company's production supply. The employed test methodologies consist in a test bench for the evaluation of the overall efficiency of the transmission. In particular, the test bench comprises the complete transmission and evaluates its efficiency by computing power in, power out and power lost. Similar performances are expected for the two oils. The obtained results showed the capability of the test setup of measuring the desired quantities. Also, the subsequent post-processing showed that the two types of oil, for the considered transmission, have basically the same performances in terms of efficiency, components’ lubrication, and cooling. The test demonstrates that, from a mechanical performances point of view the sustainable solution is equivalent to the considered conventional oil.

Abstract
The test demonstrates that, from a mechanical performances point of view the sustainable solution is equivalent to the considered conventional oil.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
