This thesis is divided into two acts. The first recounts the formation and cultural context in which Piero Bottoni's design idea developed, analyzing the master's polytechnic knowledge and relationships with contemporaries. The second sees the investigation of various case studies in which the arts and memory, both individual and collective, are related. The research is focused on the analysis of Bottoni's architectural production in relation to the continuous reflection on the evocative and mnemonic character of architecture and the relationship with history. Bottoni's mastery is also emphasized by his ability to bring together in the design gesture all the "techniques" at his disposal such as architecture, design, urban planning and sculpture. Through the analysis of a selection of works between the years 1924 and 1966, we investigate the contributions that the Milanese architect brought within that line of research related to the design of elements capable of evoking the intimate memory of the individual person but also the collective memory of the great events of history, following in some way the furrow traced by predecessors and contemporaries. The thesis will focus on monumental projects for: Monte Stella at QT8 (1953-70), Monument to the Partisans in Aosta (1960-61), Monument to the Resistance in Sesto San Giovanni (1962-63), Ossuary Monument to the Fallen Partisans at the Certosa in Bologna (1954-63) and the private ones related to: Davoli Tomb (1924), Secondi Funeral Chapel in Melegnano (1928-29), Vitale Chapel in Ottobiano (1928-29), Bottoni Funeral Chapel in Massalengo (1956), Magrit Bottoni Tomb in Paris (1958) and Dello Strologo Tomb in Viareggio (1965-66).
