Climate change and the limited amount of fossil fuels are motivating the energy transition. Several approaches have been globally studied for the reduction of CO2 emissions, by replacing fossil fuels with non-pollutant sources of energy. In this transition, the participation of all the members of society is required, starting from governments all around the world, research and development departments, and the community. This work is focused on the energy transition in Colombia and aims to determine how is positioned the country in this process. To do so, a literature review of all the Colombian authorities was conducted, checking the resolutions, plans, and roadmaps designed for the introduction of renewable energy sources for electricity generation. It studied the status of the Electric Power System of the country, identifying its advantages and challenges. It was determined that Colombia is a rich country in terms of natural resources, such as water bodies, solar irradiance, and wind velocities, which confers him great potential for the use of generation units based on renewable sources. Despite that, there were also recognized the challenges that its electric grid is currently facing, such as the presence of zones without access to electricity, and the strong reliability of hydropower plants. After an analysis, it was resolved that Renewable Energy Sources are a solution for these problems in the country, because of their technical advantages, such as the ability to be located in urban areas, on a small or large scale and to operate as an electricity island. This research concludes that Colombia is well positioned in the energy transition path, specifically in the electricity field, since it was demonstrated that the country is making real efforts to introduce projects based mainly on renewable sources.

Abstract
This research concludes that Colombia is well positioned in the energy transition path, specifically in the electricity field, since it was demonstrated that the country is making real efforts to introduce projects based mainly on renewable sources.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
