Iconic structures by well-known architects, known as star architecture, are becoming recognizable symbols in heritage cities. These structures take form in the heritage environment either by the demolition or renovation of the historical buildings based on the intentions, approach, and design criteria of the architect. The development of these iconic star architecture projects in the heritage environment has become an international issue raising debates and concerns about the future of these cities. Through the data collected from field observation, interviews, press reviews, and online available data this research will highlight the different approaches used by different star architects to incorporate their design strategies in the historic environment and the relationship between the architect’s contemporary design and the historical context of the city by taking the case of Venice. The study will be conducted by understanding two different projects one by Le Corbusier who wanted to demolish an existing old structure to construct his modern design of Venice hospital in a city completely different from the urban fabric of Venice. The other is a renovation project by Rem Koolhaas of Fondaco dei Tedeschi building into a luxury store that affects the various aspects of the city’s cultural, economic, and social dynamics. This research highlights the points of understanding the role of star architecture buildings in the city and the different approaches used by the architects to incorporate their design in the heritage city of Venice.

Abstract
This research highlights the points of understanding the role of star architecture buildings in the city and the different approaches used by the architects to incorporate their design in the heritage city of Venice.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
