The Duomo di Milano is the most important public building in the city, carrying the collective memory, identity, and sense of belonging of its citizens. The Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo di Milano, which has been associated with the cathedral since its inception, boasts a history of over six hundred years, responsible for the construction, restoration, and management of the Duomo. The Cantieri Marmisti, located in the Certosa district to the northwest of Milan, is a marble workshop where sculptors and craftsmen replicate and process sculptures and architectural components needed for replacement in the cathedral. The sculptures that have been replaced are currently placed in the courtyard of the workshop. These sculptures, which hold significant artistic, historical, and emotional value, require an archive for better protection and storage. This thesis examines the history of the Veneranda Fabbrica, as well as the process of marble from its extraction, transportation, processing, use, to its eventual replacement and entry into the sculpture graveyard. The proposed design for the sculpture archive, while meeting functional requirements, intervenes in the existing site with its architectural layout and form, transforming it into a new significant public space for the region. On the other hand, through the expression of architectural monumentality, it emphasizes the collective emotional memory and identity encapsulated by the theme of the sculpture archive.

Abstract
On the other hand, through the expression of architectural monumentality, it emphasizes the collective emotional memory and identity encapsulated by the theme of the sculpture archive.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
