Next stop: Pristina : the impact of the new railway connection Durrës-Pristina on the capital city of Kosovo

Pristina is the capital city of Kosovo, a country in the heart of the Western Balkans. Recently, there has been important development in improving the railway networks of the Balkan countries and integrating them to the European corridors of transportation. For Kosovo, the most important project is the project for the new railway connection Durrës-Pristina. This project will give Kosovo the opportunity to connect to its neighbors and to the international networks. This thesis work argues that the new connection Durrës-Pristina is a huge incentive to revamp the whole railway system of the country. Besides the economic benefits, this revamp will help Kosovo to move towards a greener, more sustainable mean of transportation. Furthermore, this work focuses on the impact of the railway system in the capital city and proposes a new railway station for Pristina. The aim of the proposal is to offer modern facilities that fulfill the needs of the new system, as well as to serve as a bridge between the different parts of the city and as a propeller of urban development of Pristina.

Pristina è la capitale del Kosovo, un Paese nel cuore dei Balcani occidentali. Negli ultimi tempi si sono registrati importanti sviluppi nel miglioramento delle reti ferroviarie dei Paesi balcanici e nella loro integrazione nei corridoi di trasporto europei. Per il Kosovo, il progetto più importante è quello del nuovo collegamento ferroviario Durazzo-Pristina. Questo progetto darà al Kosovo l'opportunità di collegarsi ai suoi vicini e alle reti internazionali. Questo lavoro di tesi sostiene che il nuovo collegamento Durazzo-Pristina è un enorme incentivo per rinnovare l'intero sistema ferroviario del Paese. Oltre ai benefici economici, questo rinnovamento aiuterà il Kosovo a muoversi verso un mezzo di trasporto più verde e sostenibile. Inoltre, questo lavoro si concentra sull'impatto del sistema ferroviario nella capitale e propone una nuova stazione ferroviaria per Pristina. L'obiettivo della proposta è quello di offrire strutture moderne che soddisfino le esigenze del nuovo sistema, oltre a fungere da ponte tra le diverse parti della città e da propulsore dello sviluppo urbano di Pristina.
