Milano-Gallaratese: il campus scolastico come aggregazione di cluster esagonali

The present master's thesis develops through the study of the Gallaratese neighborhood, from its conception in the post-war period to the current issues, highlighting how the theme of school architecture and its relationships with the neighborhood are closely related to it. This historical-territorial analysis is accompanied by a study on the models of school buildings in Milan, focusing on building typologies and their internal hierarchy, analyzing the existing criticalities. The paper proposes a design experimentation that aims to rethink the model of the school building, implementing a functional program in which the conception of school, understood as an aggregation of serving spaces and served spaces, is abandoned in favor of a system in which every environment becomes an integral part of students' school life. If in the past the school was seen only as a place for learning notions through the frontal teaching scheme, in recent decades it has been understood that this mechanism is no longer sufficient. Today, in fact, the school environment is conceived as a tool for the formation of young people, which includes, in addition to the cultural aspect, also the social aspect and, in general, the skills necessary to relate to today's society. The project, in addition to being based on a new conception of correlation between internal spaces, pays attention to the relationship with the context and the city, through the integration of spaces for the neighborhood and places of aggregation. In this perspective, the large public park in front of the building becomes an extension of it, creating connections between the neighborhood and the campus.

La presente tesi di laurea magistrale si sviluppa attraverso lo studio del quartiere Gallaratese, dalla sua concezione nel dopoguerra fino alle problematiche odierne, evidenziando come il tema dell’architettura scolastica e le sue relazioni con il quartiere sia strettamente correlato ad esso. A questa analisi storico-territoriale viene affiancato uno studio sui modelli di edilizia scolastica Milanesi ponendo attenzione alle tipologie edilizie e alla loro gerarchia interna analizzando le criticità presenti. L’elaborato propone una sperimentazione progettuale che si pone l’obbiettivo di ripensare il modello di edificio scolastico, attuando un programma funzionale in cui la concezione di scuola, intesa come aggregazione di spazi serventi e spazi serviti, viene abbandonata in favore di un sistema in cui ogni ambiente diventa parte integrante della vita scolastica degli studenti. Se in passato la scuola era vista solo come luogo di apprendimento di nozioni attraverso lo schema della didattica frontale, nel corso degli ultimi decenni si è capito che questo meccanismo non è più sufficiente. Oggi, infatti, l’ambiente scolastico è concepito come strumento di formazione dei giovani che comprende, oltre all’ambito culturale, anche quello sociale e in generale le competenze necessarie per relazionarsi alla società odierna. Il progetto, oltre a basarsi su una nuova concezione di correlazione tra spazi interni, pone attenzione alla relazione con il contesto e la città, mediante l’integrazione di spazi per il quartiere e luoghi di aggregazione. In quest’ottica il grande parco pubblico antistante l’edificio risulta un’estensione di quest'ultimo, creando collegamenti tra il quartiere e il campus.
