The current global situation is marked by ecological issues that cause disorientation, uncertainty, and hostility. Ecological emergencies have a profound impact on various scenarios, including social, political, and economic crises, which can lead to the emergence of conflicts. Reflection on the rapid economic development and its consequences leads to a better understanding of the interests and strategies that countries have regarding territorial conquest and the right to exploitation. To address these challenges, it is necessary to reimagine design as a meta term, using a set of tools and methods to potentially usher in a new civilisation. (Latour, 2018b) Earth is considered as a whole and its complex system of interrelation between global and local truths. The work is constructed through three interconnected maneuvers (series of movements): Maneuver I is to acknowledge contemporary ecological issues by interpreting Edouard Glissant's theory of opacity in order to map some specific territories in the world (terra nullius, disputed, unrecognized and uninhabited lands). Operational readings constitute the foundation of the holistic genealogy of the research. Theoretical questions lead to sifting through the process of mapping by applying a new opaque and ecological approach. Intermediate maneuver has its roots in the methodology of creative mapping practices and it further leans towards the Earth. By moving in the surroundings, it is necessary to interact with the world, new generous design operations are necessary to relate to the sites marked by an uncertainty condition. The movement is determined by the interference between the data and the given reality, which makes visible what is not, even when it is unpredictable. Maneuver III defines a design methodology that considers the intricate relationship between form and its own destination. Four design projects, set in the four categories of mapped territories, offer a new perspective on inhabiting and interacting with ecosystems by landing phenomena on sites. The thesis aims to enhance singularities and controversies of lands through design operations from mapping of the real to mapping of the imaginary. This rotation hopes to rediscover the planet we live in, by landing on it and trying to gain a new proximity to the conditions in which we live. (Latour & Weibel, 2020b)
(Latour & Weibel, 2020b)
