The city of Eleusina hides in the shadow of the skeletons of industry an almost forgotten acropolis. The building plays a second role in the urban vision of the project: it relates the acropolis, the new ring road, and the post-industrial park, drawn from the disused factories located close to the southern slope of the hill. The design for the urban park aims to reuse many of the disused manufacturing buildings to create several gardens that will bring greenery back to the city, restoring the natural slope of the land, with a system of terraces, confirming the language and choices adopted in the other project areas.

Abstract
The city of Eleusina hides in the shadow of the skeletons of industry an almost forgotten acropolis. As Greece's first sacred center between 1500 B.C. and the 4th century A.D., the Eleusinian Mysteries, the secret rites of celebration in honor of the goddess Demeter and her daughter Persephone, were held in Eleusis. Its historical fame and recent industrial past have been the city's driving force in its bid for "European Capital of Culture 2023. Its two faces need a formal reconnection in a project that aims to create a synergistic relationship between today's discordant parts of the city. The lack of an enhancement project for the ruins of the acropolis and the dissonant urban fabric create an inconsistent design of the city. The second defining feature of the city are the disused industrial plants of the 19th and 20th centuries. The city lives with large fences filled with unused buildings that remain as evidence of a rich and productive past. The design process investigates the possibility of mending the broken relationship between the archaeological site, the city and the first industrial plant of Eleusina, proposing a project of an urban character that culminates in an architectural artifact, which through its composition gives system to the main instances of the piece of city it fits into. The building represents the synthesis of the design process, as it takes the main compositional rule of the acropolis and makes it its own, becoming a stratification of the hillside palimpsest. The building plays a second role in the urban vision of the project: it relates the acropolis, the new ring road, and the post-industrial park, drawn from the disused factories located close to the southern slope of the hill. The design for the urban park aims to reuse many of the disused manufacturing buildings to create several gardens that will bring greenery back to the city, restoring the natural slope of the land, with a system of terraces, confirming the language and choices adopted in the other project areas.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
