Urban regeneration is a complex process involving a wide range of interests and issues. To support urban transformation processes, the European project “New European Bauhaus” (NEB) has outlined a strategy based on beauty, inclusivity and sustainability principles, in line with the Green Deal (European climate agenda). Although the concept of beauty has been widely discussed in the literature as an influential element in determining the quality of urban spaces, its application in urban regeneration and the challenges it poses, have remained largely unexplored. This thesis aims to fill this gap by investigating placemaking processes in the transformation of public spaces, considering MIND Innovation District in Milan as a case study. The methodology consists of an analysis of public space evaluation methods, combined with an in-depth exploration of placemaking processes in the context of urban regeneration. This is followed by a contextual analysis of the case study district, actively involving MIND stakeholders and experts in the field. The result of this analysis is a model called 'Beauty for All', which integrates the dimension of beauty with the principles of inclusiveness and sustainability. The operational tool of the model is the 'Impact Wheel', which focuses on the evaluation of the user experience in the transforming public space. This tool allows decision-makers and urban planners to orientate their strategic choices and monitor the impact of implemented interventions.

Abstract
This tool allows decision-makers and urban planners to orientate their strategic choices and monitor the impact of implemented interventions.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
