This document will illustrate an application of the mathematical methodologies defined by operations research, in the context of the task of optimizing a supply chain for a large multinational. Nowadays, companies find themselves having to make strategic decisions regarding any aspect of their business in a highly uncertain context, due to the economic, geopolitical, and environmental scenarios, but also very dynamic and competitive. Therefore, making a supply chain as efficient and effective as possible takes on a key value for the success of companies of any size and sector of expertise. This work required the modeling and consequent optimization of the supply chain examined, focusing in particular on the detailed planning of the entire production operating cycle, minimizing costs while strictly respecting deadlines. To this end, a model was developed to represent the supply chain as a multidimensional graph and reduce planning to a minimum cost flow problem on the same graph, which can be optimized through linear programming. The results were very satisfactory, as the approach followed, compared with the methodologies currently in use, could lead to significant savings for the company in terms of time, costs and human resources. The flexibility of this type of operation should also be underlined, potentially applicable and adaptable to the specific context of any company, thus allowing their development to be facilitated in a strategic and sustainable manner. This study provides further evidence, therefore, that operational research represents a fundamental tool for contributing to the success in any field of a company.

Abstract
This study provides further evidence, therefore, that operational research represents a fundamental tool for contributing to the success in any field of a company.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
