Intervalli : trasformazione della vecchia fabbrica Nestlé di Marsiglia

The project involves the transformation of the former Nestlé factory built by Fernand Pouillon and René Egger in Marseille in 1952. It is a very large and deep building, formed by the repetition of a reinforced concrete pillar-beam module of 5.5 x 5.5 m. With chocolate production having left the site, the building is now abandoned, and there is no longer a single function capable of filling the entire volume. The project also faces an urban challenge as it is surrounded by railway lines, a river, and a motorway. The project responses are articulated in three points. Firstly, the project proposes to give a collective function to the building to seize the opportunity of its size to create a piece of the city. Secondly, to make it habitable by emptying its center to let in natural light and considering the existing structure as the support for prefabricated cells that fit into the existing structure. And finally, it proposes a reflection on flexibility and modularity by taking advantage of the generosity of the existing structural grid.

Il progetto prevede la trasformazione dell'ex fabbrica Nestlé costruita da Fernand Pouillon e René Egger a Marsiglia nel 1952. Si tratta di un edificio molto grande e profondo, formato dalla ripetizione di un modulo pilastro-trave in cemento armato di 5,5 x 5,5 m. Con la cessazione della produzione di cioccolato sul sito, l'edificio è ora abbandonato e non esiste più una singola funzione in grado di occupare l'intero volume. Inoltre, il progetto si confronta con una sfida urbana in quanto è circondato da linee ferroviarie, un corso d'acqua e un'autostrada. Le risposte del progetto si articolano in tre punti. In primo luogo, il progetto propone di conferire all'edificio una funzione collettiva per cogliere l'opportunità della sua dimensione per creare un pezzo di città. In secondo luogo, si propone di renderlo abitabile svuotando il suo centro per far entrare la luce naturale e considerando la struttura esistente come supporto per cellule prefabbricate che si inseriscono nella struttura esistente. Infine, il progetto propone una riflessione sulla flessibilità e la modularità sfruttando la generosità della griglia strutturale esistente.
