Living Cities : il progetto di una torre residenziale nella storia della casa in Olanda: una proposta per l'Europan a Tilburg

The master's thesis work presented here is a design research project that investigates the new themes of living rooted in the long and deep-rooted history of housing in the Netherlands. The project is intended as a tool to understand the spatial, aesthetic and morphological qualities of living places, not limiting itself to private spaces, but including open and closed spaces, their relationship, open but covered spaces, private and public places and their possibility of interpenetration, as well as new workplaces, such as factories and start-ups. The theme of living is thus linked to the places of the city, which in turn include the cultural, social, economic and political issues of the context. Since the bourgeois epic of the Amsterdam school, first with Berlage, at the same time as De Stijl, then with the experiences of the 1960s and then with contemporary events, the housing theme has always driven the country, generating moments of grace that have made Holland a model. Now with the new global problems, the housing crisis and sustainability issues, there is a need to propose new spatial concepts that focus strongly on inclusion, community, flexibility, respect for privacy and the need for security. The project therefore tries to hold these aspects together, considering them in every compositional, spatial and material choice in the search for beauty that is not only aesthetic, but relational and sentimental. The project area is located in the district of Kenniskwartier, in Tilburg, and is one of the 6 "prototype sites" proposed by the Europan 17 competition, whose title is "LIVING CITIES".

Il lavoro di tesi magistrale qui presentato è una ricerca progettuale che indaga i nuovi temi dell’abitare affondando le prorie radici nella lunga e radicata storia della casa in Olanda. Il progetto si propone come strumento per comprendere le qualità spaziali, estetiche e morfologiche dei luoghi dell’abitare, non limitandosi agli spazi privati, ma includendo i luoghi aperti e chiusi, la loro relazione, gli spazi aperti ma coperti, i luoghi privati e pubblici e la loro possibilità di compenetrazione, nonchè i nuovi luoghi del lavoro, come le factory e le start up. Il tema dell’abitare è quindi legato ai luoghi della città che a suo volta includono le tematiche culturali, sociali, economiche e politiche del contesto. Sin dall’epopea borghese della scuola di Amsterdam, prima ancora con Berlage, contemporaneamente al De Stijl, poi con le esperienze degli anni Sessanta e poi con le vicende contemporanee, il tema edilizio della casa ha sempre trainato il paese generando momenti di grazia che hanno reso l’Olanda un modello. Ora con le nuove problematiche globali, la crisi abitativa e le tematiche legate alla sostenibilità, è necessario proporre nuove spazialità che mirino fortemente sull’inclusione, sulla collettività, sulla flessibilità, sul rispetto della privacy e sulla necessità di sicurezza. Il progetto quindi, prova a tenere insieme questi aspetti considerandoli in ogni scelta compositiva, spaziale, materica per andare alla ricerca di quella bellezza non sia solamente estetica, bensì relazionale e sentimentale. L’area del progetto è situata nel quartire di Kenniskwartier, a Tilburg, ed è uno dei 6 “siti prototipici” proposti dal concorso Europan 17, il cui titolo è “LIVING CITIES”.
