"Sprouts of Urban Landscapes" is the title of the thesis aimed at developing guidelines for the integration of agriculture in urban landscapes, where urban life is shaped by the opportunities and challenges posed by ever-increasing urbanization. It analyzes the morphological differences of the built environment, the various types of cultivation, and the role that cultivation can have in different geographical contexts and buildings with different functions (residential, administrative, school, etc.). For this reason, the thesis is divided into several phases, which delve into aspects related to the morphological characteristics of the city and its agricultural potential. The tools used for analysis were of various types, ranging from literature reviews to population questionnaires, to the analysis of best practices. The guidelines were then applied in a residential building and a public building, such as a school; both located in the Milanese neighborhood of Corvetto, the residential building in a block of economically and socially subsidized housing (ERP), and the block where the Primary School and the nursery school are located. In particular, the first phase regards the research investigation, starting by providing an overview of several typologies of urban agriculture and recognizing the multiple practices used in different urban environments. Best practices are drawn from worldwide examples, with an emphasis on sustainable, moderate, and inclusive objectives that are compatible with the urban landscape context. The second phase aims to comprehend the basic methodology and criteria for design that regulate this continuously developing field. Design criteria are varied for each typology according to their specific features and components defined in the first phase. That's why, design criteria are formed that range from site selection to water management, and serve as the basis of an integrated approach to urban agriculture in the dynamic urban environment to promote resilient and adaptable urban agriculture systems. The last phase seeks to demonstrate several urban agriculture methods in Milan's Corvetto area. Through an in-depth study of the context, community dynamics, and urban fabric from the Milan scale to the Corvetto scale, the implementation of urban agriculture in the site serves as a living testament to the achievable potential and impact of integrating such activities into urban landscape contexts. The case study addresses design criteria for its core objectives, potential scenarios, and the symbiotic relationship between productivity and the current urban landscape.

Abstract
The case study addresses design criteria for its core objectives, potential scenarios, and the symbiotic relationship between productivity and the current urban landscape.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
