The objective of this thesis is to assess the structural stability and robustness of a canopy roof over the PostAuto bus station in Chur, Switzerland. First, the theoretical background of structural robustness is introduced. Historical and recent events are recalled pointing at how relevant the topic is. The general methods of assessment are introduced and discussed, as well as the Eurocode approach to the robustness topic. Secondly, the static analysis of the structure is presented. The real geometrical data and material properties are compiled, based on the actual structure and the archived information obtained during the research phase of the thesis. The static analysis is performed based on the current Eurocode and Swiss National Annex. For this part, both manual calculations and a computer software are used. In the third chapter, the robustness of the structure is tested following the Eurocode advice for the type of the structure, and the results are presented. The last chapter contains conclusions drawn from this case study, and recommendations are offered for the similar structures analysed in the future.
L'obiettivo di questa tesi è valutare la stabilità strutturale e la robustezza di una copertura sopra la stazione Postauto a Coira, in Svizzera. Innanzitutto viene introdotto il contesto teorico della robustezza strutturale. Vengono richiamati eventi storici e recenti sottolineando quanto sia rilevante l'argomento. Vengono introdotti e discussi i metodi generali di valutazione, nonché l'approccio dell'Eurocodice al tema della robustezza. Successivamente viene presentata l’analisi statica della struttura. Vengono compilati i dati geometrici reali e le proprietà dei materiali, sulla base della struttura effettiva e delle informazioni archiviate ottenute durante la fase di ricerca della tesi. L'analisi statica viene eseguita sulla base dell'attuale Eurocodice e del codice svizzero SIA. Nel terzo capitolo viene testata la robustezza della struttura seguendo i consigli dell'Eurocodice per il tipo di struttura e vengono presentati i risultati. L'ultimo capitolo contiene le conclusioni tratte da questo caso di studio e vengono offerte raccomandazioni per le strutture simili analizzate in futuro.
