The amputation of the upper extremities greatly affects an individual’s life. Upper-limb prosthetics might have a significant impact on amputees, although abandonment rates are still high. The work of this thesis, located within the promising and evolving context of myoelectric upper-limb prosthesis, is about the development of a bench test for the validation of new control strategies and actuation designs. It consists of a scalable and modular system that users can employ for testing different prosthesis solutions with simple firmware adjustments. The project includes three main parts: hardware, firmware, and software. For the first part, the hardware design of a Bluetooth breakout is carried out. Regarding the firmware, two different control strategies are implemented in the microcontroller: direct control and pattern recognition. Lastly, the software consists of a LabVIEW user interface that connects to the prosthesis control unit for changing control settings via Bluetooth connection. The successful technical and functional validation of the hardware, firmware, and software components validates the functioning of the proposed system. Even if additional implementations and future developments should be made, the described system represents a starting point for improving technological solutions and promoting progress in the field of prosthetics.

Abstract
Even if additional implementations and future developments should be made, the described system represents a starting point for improving technological solutions and promoting progress in the field of prosthetics.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
