In an era characterized by rapid technological advancements and evolving consumer expectations, organizations are compelled to enhance corporate profits, reduce production costs, and improve production efficiency to accommodate shorter product life cycles. The integration of Industry 4.0 technologies into manufacturing environments has significantly augmented digitalization in industrial sectors. Concurrently, Lean Manufacturing principles have long been acknowledged for their role in driving industrial efficiency through waste reduction and continuous improvement. This thesis explores the symbiotic relationship between digitalization and Lean methodologies, emphasizing how Lean principles can catalyze and sustain digital transformation initiatives. Through empirical research involving surveys and interviews with multiple companies, this study identifies barriers and limitations organizations encounter during digital transformation journeys. These obstacles are clustered into dimensions, such as awareness, workload balancing, mapping, coordination, and task force, which can be addressed by Lean practices. The research findings underscore the centrality of data in digital transformation efforts, the challenges faced by organizations, and the pivotal role of Lean in overcoming these challenges. However, the study acknowledges limitations, including sample size constraints, reliance on self-reported data, and the qualitative nature of the analysis. Future research directions are proposed to address these limitations, including expanding sample diversity, employing mixed-methods approaches, and exploring additional variables influencing the relationship between Lean practices and Industry 4.0 adoption. By addressing these areas for future research, scholars can contribute to a more comprehensive understanding of how Lean principles can facilitate successful digital transformations in diverse organizational contexts, ultimately enriching the body of knowledge in this evolving field.
In un'epoca caratterizzata da rapidi progressi tecnologici e dall'evoluzione delle aspettative dei consumatori, le organizzazioni sono costrette a incrementare i profitti aziendali, ridurre i costi di produzione e migliorare l'efficienza produttiva per adattarsi a cicli di vita dei prodotti più brevi. L'integrazione delle tecnologie dell'Industria 4.0 negli ambienti produttivi ha aumentato in modo significativo la digitalizzazione nei settori industriali. Allo stesso tempo, i principi della Lean Manufacturing sono da tempo riconosciuti per il loro ruolo nel guidare l'efficienza industriale attraverso la riduzione degli sprechi e il miglioramento continuo. Questa tesi esplora la relazione simbiotica tra digitalizzazione e metodologie Lean, sottolineando come i principi Lean possano catalizzare e sostenere le iniziative di trasformazione digitale. Attraverso una ricerca empirica che prevede sondaggi e interviste con diverse aziende, questo studio identifica le barriere e i limiti che le organizzazioni incontrano durante il percorso di trasformazione digitale. Questi ostacoli sono raggruppati in dimensioni quali la consapevolezza, il bilanciamento del carico di lavoro, la mappatura, il coordinamento e la task force, che possono essere affrontati con le pratiche Lean. I risultati della ricerca sottolineano la centralità dei dati negli sforzi di trasformazione digitale, le sfide affrontate dalle organizzazioni e il ruolo centrale del Lean nel superamento di queste sfide. Tuttavia, lo studio riconosce dei limiti, tra cui la limitatezza del campione, la dipendenza da dati autodichiarati e la natura qualitativa dell'analisi. Per ovviare a queste limitazioni, si propongono future direzioni di ricerca, tra cui l'ampliamento della varietà del campione, l'impiego di approcci di tipo misto e l'esplorazione di ulteriori variabili che influenzano la relazione tra le pratiche Lean e l'adozione di Industry 4.0. Affrontando queste aree di ricerca futura, gli studiosi possono contribuire a una comprensione più completa di come i principi Lean possano facilitare trasformazioni digitali di successo in diversi contesti organizzativi, arricchendo in ultima analisi il corpus di conoscenze in questo campo in evoluzione.
