This thesis explores the enhancement of urban forest ecological condition at the neighbourhood scale, proposing an analysis of current status and future scenarios in San Cristóbal de Los Ángeles, Madrid (Spain). The spatial analysis of ecological conditions employs indicators related to trees from the municipality's "Green Infrastructure and Biodiversity Plan". The analyses are conducted and reported at neighbourhood level and in quadrats of 400mx400m and 200mx200m. The focus of the analysis is to investigate the quantity of canopy tree, the quantity of trees relative to the inhabitants, and the biodiversity of the trees. Secondly, to assess two ecosystem services (local climate regulation and air filtration) provided by the urban forest. The selection of these ecosystem services was made based on the results of a direct survey conducted among the residents. This decision was further informed by the social and geographical characteristics of the neighbourhood. Regarding the current status, the results usually show a satisfactory condition at the neighbourhood level. Instead, per quadrats, the results show an uneven distribution of the urban forest, its ecological condition, and ecosystem services generated. Based on these results, three different scenarios were developed to achieve satisfactory conditions at the quadrat level. They are based on the following guidelines: improvement of the quantity of trees while respecting biodiversity and ensuring an equitable distribution of ecosystem services. The scenarios indicate where new trees are required and of which species and size, being informative to guide future tree planting plans.

Abstract
The scenarios indicate where new trees are required and of which species and size, being informative to guide future tree planting plans.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
