The research focuses on the analysis of the growing dematerialization of the fashion system, with particular attention to the relationship between bodies and objects, and the consequent effects on the design practice of future creatives. Drawing on embodied and situated knowledge, on “Fashion 4.0” current digital and technological innovation, and on the evolving skills of designers, the research aims to outline future scenarios for design practice and to propose the Embodied Digital Fashion (EDF) design methodology. Aimed at an academic educational application and developed addressing Politecnico di Milano jewelry and accessory design students, it represents an attempt to blend the growing digital intangibility of the contemporary context with the strong bodily connection of the practice of fashion design. Current academic research underlines an emerging need to update educational methodologies aimed at digital fashion merging the growing dematerialization and the materiality of “Fashion System”. The research is carried out through four main activities. Firstly, it explores Digital Fashion through literature review and three case studies analysis, discussing on virtual interactions, the multiplicity of bodies and spaces in fashion, and digital technologies supporting creativity and embodiment in HCI field. Secondly, it envisions future scenarios for design practice. Third, it activates two scenarios through two case studies carried out in the academic field. They inform the identification of digital and creative tools to insert in the methodology. Finally, the research is expanded by 3 contextual inquiries at Aalto University with fashion and knitwear design students and 4 online interviews with professional experts coming from film, gaming, special effects, and art industries. The aim of hybridizing the study is to compare different approaches between physical and digital design processes, implementing the final methodology. The research provides new knowledge on Fashion 4.0 and proposes a design methodology that suggests overcoming the physical-digital divide, for a more creative, embodied, and integrated approach to digital fashion design.

Abstract
The research provides new knowledge on Fashion 4.0 and proposes a design methodology that suggests overcoming the physical-digital divide, for a more creative, embodied, and integrated approach to digital fashion design.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
