At the turn of the new millennium, with the advent of new technologies and media, music has undergone radical transformations in the way it is produced, distributed, and consumed, bringing to light controversies regarding its economic and cultural value. While some argue that music has lost its economic and artistic value, others believe that easier access has enriched the global cultural landscape. This thesis aims to examine the evolution of musical communication through a multidisciplinary analysis that intertwines design, sociology, anthropology, and digital culture, in order to answer the research question: how has the digital revolution influenced the perceived value and consumption of music, and how can design contribute to supporting artists and enhancing musical art? Following a historical analysis of major traditional media, such as radio and television, and their impact on the distribution of recorded music, the thesis examines the enormous influence of the digital revolution, highlighting how file-sharing has democratized access to music, creating new challenges for traditional business models. Music streaming and the ease with which music can now be produced, published, and listened to autonomously have redefined the relationship between consumers and music producers, raising questions about the remuneration and economic sustainability of artists and the value of their work. The advent of the internet has thus shaped the value of music up to the present day, for some revealing its real economic value hidden behind the media that accompanied it, for others marking a devaluation due to the habit of obtaining music for free since the early 2000s. By analyzing the economic and cultural dynamics that influence the value of music in the current digital context, strategies are explored to ensure fair and sustainable remuneration for artists, using design as an innovative tool. To provide further insights into the research question, a survey was conducted on a representative sample to gather data on individual perceptions regarding the value and importance of music in daily life. The results show significant trends in the perception of the value of music today, offering insights into how design and technology can contribute to valuing and supporting musical art.

Abstract
The results show significant trends in the perception of the value of music today, offering insights into how design and technology can contribute to valuing and supporting musical art.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
