TSO-DSO coordination schemes for ancillary services provision. An overview with italian insights

A study on the coordination schemes between the Transmission System Operator (TSO) and the Distribution System Operator (DSO) for the provision of ancillary services is the content of this master's thesis project. The characteristics of the current energy sector are initially presented to contextualize the importance and necessity of this research. The main guidelines and initiatives taken at the European level and how they influence the evolution of the role of the Distribution System Operator are presented. Subsequently, after conducting an in-depth analysis of the related literature, the TSO-DSO coordination schemes defined in the reference documentation are presented, indicating the roles assumed by the system operators, analyzing the advantages and attention points of each market model, and critically assessing their feasibility of implementation. Finally, a study of the current situation in Italy has been carried out, describing its regulatory context and analyzing various initiatives in the form of pilot projects related to the coordination between system operators.

Uno studio sugli schemi di coordinamento tra il Gestore del Sistema di Trasmissione (TSO) e il Gestore del Sistema di Distribuzione (DSO) per la fornitura di servizi ausiliari è il contenuto di questo progetto di tesi di laurea magistrale. A tal fine, inizialmente vengono presentate le caratteristiche del settore energetico attuale, con l'obiettivo di contestualizzare l'importanza e la necessità di questa ricerca. Si illustrano le principali linee guida e iniziative adottate a livello europeo e come queste influenzano l'evoluzione del ruolo del Gestore del Sistema di Distribuzione. Successivamente, dopo aver condotto un'analisi approfondita della letteratura correlata, vengono presentati gli schemi di coordinamento TSO-DSO definiti nella documentazione di riferimento, indicando i ruoli assunti dai gestori del sistema, analizzando i vantaggi e gli svantaggi di ciascun modello di mercato e valutando criticamente la loro fattibilità di implementazione. Infine, è stato realizzato uno studio della situazione attuale in Italia, descrivendo il contesto normativo e analizzando varie iniziative sotto forma di progetti pilota relative al coordinamento tra i gestori del sistema.
