The master’s thesis focuses on the complex phenomenon of urban suburbs and the treatment of schools within these areas, leading to school segregation. Through a theoretical and empirical approach, it highlights the social, economic, and educational dynamics characterizing current suburbs. First, the thesis examines the periphery, its origins, and its conceptual development. It continues by exploring when and how this concept became understood as a negative aspect of the city, studying the movements of inhabitants, both Italians and foreigners. As the study progresses, it investigates the daily challenges faced by schools located in these underprivileged areas. The thesis aims to understand the inequality present in the educational model and the resulting problems. The analysis includes the Italian educational poverty and the concept of school segregation, which affects children and neighborhood residents. Using data from bank databases, bibliographic sources, and site maps, the study shows several diagrams illustrating the situation’s evolution. Finally, the thesis analyzes a specific neighborhood, comparing Milanese data with those specific to the school district, considering the presence and enrollment of Italian and foreign minors.
