A vertical composition gradient in the active layer of bulk heterojunction solar cells can lead to better charge conduction and collection. P3HT:PCBM bulk heterojunctions were fabricated via spin-coating and a second spin-coating step, with different composition, was introduced to achieve a composition gradient; the attempts resulted in excessive damage to the first layer deposited, requiring to test multiple different solvents. In the end, a layered morphology was obtained, using dichlorobenzene and benzyl benzoate as solvents, but only in small regions of the active layer, resulting in lower photocurrent than the bulk devices.
Un gradiente verticale di composizione nel materiale attivo di una cella solare a bulk heterojunction può migliorare il trasporto e l'estrazione di carica. Sono state fabbricate delle bulk-heterojunction di P3HT:PCBM attraverso spin-coating ed è stata introdotta una seconda fase di spin-coating, con composizione diversa, per ottenere un gradiente di composizione; i tentativi hanno comportato danni eccessivi al primo strato depositato, spingendo a testare molteplici solventi differenti. Alla fine, è stata ottenuta una morfologia stratificata, usando come solventi diclorobenzene e benzil benzoato, ma solo in regioni circoscritte del materiale attivo, causando una corrente fotovoltaica minore rispetto ai dispositivi di controllo.
