The importance and functions of warehouses: a focus on Warehouse Management Systems

This thesis has as its objective the study of WMS and the methods of choice and implementation of the latter. Inside the study the main defects of current WMS and future trends to improve their functionality and in general the technologies present in warehouses are also analyzed. The research starts from generically defining the supply chain and then arrives at the importance of the logistics sector and the role of warehouses and subsequently moves on to the main focus of the research, the warehouse management systems.

Questa tesi ha come obiettivo lo studio del WMS e delle modalità di scelta e implementazione di quest'ultimo. All'interno dello studio vengono analizzati anche i principali difetti degli attuali WMS e le tendenze future per migliorarne la funzionalità e in generale le tecnologie presenti nei magazzini. La ricerca parte dalla definizione generica della supply chain per poi arrivare all'importanza del settore logistico e al ruolo dei magazzini e successivamente si passa al focus principale della ricerca, i sistemi di gestione del magazzino.
