The project is based from the brief presented for the architecture student contest Lisbon, Portugal 2023 by Saint-Gobain. The design and energy optimization of mixed-use developments that include residential, commercial, and audio-visual areas present special potential and challenges, which is the basis for this project’s design. In order to establish an effective mixed-use environment, this study investigates the integration of modern energy management technologies and sustainable building techniques. The proposal seeks to balance the many needs of residential, commercial, and cultural spaces by utilizing a holistic design approach. High-performance building envelopes, the use of passive strategies, and the integration of renewable energy sources like solar are important tactics. To further cut down on energy usage, energy-efficient appliances, smart lighting, and HVAC systems are used. Modern media and acoustics are integrated into the audio-video library, which doubles as a cultural center. Commercial spaces are designed with flexibility and energy efficiency in mind, and long-term sustainability is ensured by taking into account options for adaptive reuse. The findings of this study underscore the potential of mixed-use developments to function as prototypes for urban sustainability. They also show how energy efficiency and careful design may result in lower environmental impact, improved occupant comfort, and lower operating costs. The results highlight how crucial cross-disciplinary cooperation and integrated design methods are to accomplishing these objectives.
