In a present where all the information and entertainment we need are at our fingertips, it is easy to forget the importance and impact that cultural centers have in the education of children. Cultivating their audiences and promoting access to such spaces has become increasingly relevant for museums, especially following the shutdown imposed in recent years due to the health emergency. The following thesis aims to investigate what communication methods are best suited to make children more involved and interested in cultural institutions, so that they can learn by actively engaging. Following an analysis of the communication of current child-oriented museums and an investigation of the contemporary landscape of children's publishing, the concept of the project was formulated: a system of artifacts, analogical and digital, that is capable of effectively communicating historical-scientific topics to an audience between the ages of 7 and 10, with the aim of arousing curiosity and interest in learning about such topics and, secondarily, in museums and cultural institutions. The center of the system is a semi-annual magazine produced in collaboration with a local institution, which periodically offers illustrated stories, educational articles, games and activities suitable for bringing youngsters closer to topics that would otherwise remain relegated to school curricula. Through the system of communicative artifacts, the relationship between the museums and their public extends beyond the confines of public buildings to inside the domestic walls, generating trust, interest and curiosity in young visitors. The project, which has been applied to the Museum of Natural Sciences in Milan, has, in short, the potential to amplify the value that lies in involving children in the museum experience, through a modality that does not necessarily require the use of digital devices and succeeds in being interactive and engaging, adapting to the needs of young audiences.

Abstract
The project, which has been applied to the Museum of Natural Sciences in Milan, has, in short, the potential to amplify the value that lies in involving children in the museum experience, through a modality that does not necessarily require the use of digital devices and succeeds in being interactive and engaging, adapting to the needs of young audiences.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
