This thesis analyzes the field of foresight to understand its core characteristics, methodologies, and its impact. In parallel, it offers a detailed perspective of the landscape of blockchain technology and its potential implications, with particular attention to its role in decentralized finance (DeFi). At the core of this research lies the creation of an ad-hoc methodological framework to foresight the future trends of blockchain technology. This framework combines different approaches to provide a structured and easy to apply methodology. The thesis aims to show how foresight, as an academic discipline, can be applied to blockchain technology most effectively, offering a targeted tool to imagine future evolutions of a groundbreaking technology. Through a multimethodological approach that includes multiple semi-structured interviews and an observation, a literature analysis, and a content analysis, it investigates existing foresight literature and delves deep into issues such as the adverse effects of patents on the open-source nature of blockchain, blockchain market concentration, governance of blockchain companies, sources’ criticalities, and the cyclical nature of foresight. The research arrives to the definition of 3 final propositions which are integrated into an innovative foresight methodological framework, exclusively designed for blockchain technology. This research adds substantial value to the professional world, delivering an actionable foresight process that is also flanked with an orientation radar and a ranking of the foresight methodologies, to better orient the exercise of both experts of the sector and simple practitioners. In the same way, it contributes to the academic research, with a first solid investigation of a theme still unexplored by previous literature.

Abstract
In the same way, it contributes to the academic research, with a first solid investigation of a theme still unexplored by previous literature.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
