This research thesis explores tools, methods, and techniques of fantasy and creativity as discussed by Bruno Munari and Gianni Rodari, comparing them with international design paradigms. It highlights distinctive Italian design practices often overlooked in globalized design, whose discourses are dominated by Anglo‑Saxon perspectives. Through a four‑phase research approach involving literature review, comparative analysis, development of insights, and creative output, the study develops three key lessons: 1) Aimless‑endless exploration and curiosity; 2) Creative mistakes and unusual mixing; and 3) Detaching and letting go. These lessons culminate in a booklet presenting a fictional dialogue between Munari and Rodari, inspired by the format of “impossible interviews”. By emphasising tactile illustrations and a conversational tone, the booklet aims to reach both designers and non‑designers, showcasing the relevance of Italian design approaches and potentially being a source of inspiration when addressing contemporary global challenges.
Questa tesi di ricerca esplora gli strumenti, i metodi e le tecniche della fantasia e della creatività discussi da Bruno Munari e Gianni Rodari, confrontandoli con i paradigmi del design internazionale. Mette in luce le pratiche distintive del design italiano, spesso trascurate nel design globalizzato, i cui discorsi sono dominati da prospettive anglosassoni. Attraverso un approccio di ricerca in quattro fasi che comprende la revisione della letteratura, l’analisi comparativa, lo sviluppo di intuizioni e la produzione creativa, lo studio sviluppa tre lezioni chiave: 1) Esplorazione e curiosità senza un fine; 2) Errori creativi e mescolanze insolite; 3) Distaccarsi e lasciare andare. Queste lezioni culminano in un libretto che presenta un dialogo immaginario tra Munari e Rodari, ispirato al formato delle “interviste impossibili”. Enfatizzando le illustrazioni tattili e il tono colloquiale, il libretto mira a raggiungere sia i designer che i non‑designer, mostrando l’attualità degli approcci del design italiano e diventando potenzialmente una fonte di ispirazione per affrontare le sfide globali contemporanee.
