What is animacy? Disentangling the perception of aliveness through a multidisciplinary approach

The existing literature suggests that animacy is a crucial aspect of robotic design, with significant implications for user interaction and the human-robot relationship. It is important to investigate the concept of animacy to better understand how to implement devices, in particular robots, that can exploit it to obtain a successful interaction with people. This thesis represents an initial step in this direction and further explores the concept of animacy to develop a comprehensive framework for the animacy of robotic design. We collected contributions from the diverse disciplines that study animacy with the aim of obtaining a framework that could support the design of effective interactive devices.

La letteratura esistente suggerisce che l'animosità sia un aspetto cruciale del design robotico, con implicazioni significative per l'interazione con l'utente e la relazione uomo-robot. È importante indagare il concetto di animosità per comprendere meglio come implementare dispositivi, in particolare robot, che possano sfruttarlo per ottenere un'interazione di successo con le persone. Questa tesi rappresenta un primo passo in questa direzione ed esplora ulteriormente il concetto di animosità per sviluppare un quadro completo per l'animazione del design robotico. Abbiamo raccolto contributi dalle diverse discipline che studiano l'animosità con l'obiettivo di ottenere un quadro che possa supportare il design di dispositivi interattivi efficaci.
