Our purpose in this project is to rehabilitate an abandoned building. Bringing back to use something that was considered useless. The challenge we face as a society are the emissions caused by the construction industry worldwide. Being part of the construction world, it is imperative that we make a serious effort to reduce these emissions, protect historical buildings, and construct with an environmentally conscious approach without compromising the levels of comfort for habitable spaces. This challenge allows us to inspect and evaluate historical buildings. Joining efforts in the conservation of buildings and heritage with historical value. There is an added value in applying modern materials and technologies in the restoration older buildings that allows the building to have a second useful life. The idea is to deepen our understanding of rescuing abandoned buildings as we increase consciousness on the carbon footprint produced in construction. On the local scale we begin by investigating the important factors surrounding the cummune Sant’Alessio con Vialone that will determine the design decisions. Climate, environment, geography, history, demographics and economy. This guides our decision making in terms of function and design. The larger scale includes the consideration of the past and the future where conservation efforts for the past are considered to design a building for the future. This includes materials and strategies. Applying this circular economy where we can benefit from constructions from the XVIII century and where future generations can benefit from current constructions allows us to cultivate environmental sustainability in our field through design and construction. As we continue to grow and develop more efficient strategies, we expect that in the future better technologies and materials can come to provide another useful life to what we have constructed too because the most sustainable building is the one that is already built. Dimensioning of the building components that help achieve a structurally sound building and reach comfort habitational levels in living are calculated through a series of methods and strategies provided by the Politecnico di Milano. We confirm that these different methods of horizontal and vertical construction systems are in fact sustainable using the Life Cycle Assessment tool that estimates the emissions caused through construction caused by the different selection of materials which calculates the Global Warming Potential. The assertion of our decisions calculated in terms of emissions need to be to confirm that our decisions provide a proper rehabilitation of the buildings that offer stability and comfort for residential living in Cascina Lossano.
Riportare all'uso qualcosa che era considerato inutile.
