In an era marked by continuous technological advancements, the healthcare sector faces an ever-growing challenge in ensuring the effectiveness and safety of medical devices used in hospital settings. In this context, the medical device sector is progressively establishing itself as a fundamental component in improving individuals' health. Through the introduction of innovative technologies and the advancement of existing ones, medical devices have significantly transformed the healthcare landscape, making it possible to achieve more accurate and early diagnoses, optimal management of chronic diseases, and more effective support in treating medical emergencies. However, the process of integrating technological innovations within hospitals of the italian Sistema Sanitario Nazionale (SSN) presents significant challenges related to safety, efficacy, healthcare personnel training, and data management. In this context, the creation and implementation of a hospital platform dedicated to the technological transfer of medical devices represent an effective solution to overcome intrinsic barriers within the healthcare ecosystem. The creation of the platform entails defining the requirements and objectives in accordance with current regulations. This study involves designing a strategic-operational protocol to facilitate the technology transfer process of medical devices even in hospitals of the italian SSN, drawing inspiration from the current innovation management practices prevalent in the IRCCS. The protocol will also aim to identify the specific needs of the relevant department or clinical service, the potentially useful medical devices, and the subsequent evaluation of their safety, efficacy, and reliability, in addition to the logistical and operational implications of integrating innovations into the clinical workflow. In conclusion, the developed protocol, along with the associated platform, will facilitate communication and collaboration between hospitals and medical device manufacturers promoting the use of Open Innovation Healthcare models and accelerating the technology transfer process, thereby fostering the continuous innovation of the healthcare ecosystem.
In un’epoca segnata da continui avanzamenti tecnologici, il settore sanitario si trova di fronte ad una sfida sempre crescente nel garantire l’efficacia e la sicurezza dei dispositivi medici utilizzati nei differenti contesti ospedalieri. In tale contesto, il settore dei dispositivi medici si sta progressivamente affermandosi come una componente fondamentale nel miglioramento dello stato di salute degli individui. Attraverso l’introduzione di tecnologie innovative e il costante avanzamento di quelle esistenti, i dispositivi medici hanno trasformato significativamente il panorama sanitario, rendendo possibile una diagnosi più accurata e precoce, una gestione ottimale delle malattie croniche, e un supporto più efficace nel trattamento delle emergenze sanitarie. Tuttavia, il processo di integrazione delle innovazioni tecnologiche all’interno degli ospedali del Sistema Sanitario Nazionale presenta alcune sfide significative correlate a sicurezza, efficacia, formazione del personale sanitario e gestione dei dati. In tale contesto, la creazione ed implementazione di una piattaforma ospedaliera dedicata al trasferimento tecnologico di dispositivi medici rappresenta una soluzione efficace per superare le barriere intrinseche nell’ecosistema sanitario. La creazione della piattaforma prevede la definizione dei requisiti e degli obiettivi in accordo con la normativa vigente. Questo studio si configura nell’ideazione di un protocollo strategico-operativo, per favorire il processo di trasferimento tecnologico di dispositivi medici anche negli ospedali del Sistema Sanitario Nazionale, ispirandosi alle attuali modalità di gestione dell’innovazione esistenti negli IRCCS. Il protocollo avrà inoltre l’obiettivo di identificare le esigenze e i requisiti specifici del reparto o del servizio clinico interessato, i dispositivi medici potenzialmente utili, e la conseguente valutazione della loro sicurezza, efficacia e affidabilità, oltre alle implicazioni logistiche e operative dell’integrazione delle innovazioni nel flusso di lavoro clinico. In conclusione, il protocollo sviluppato, e la piattaforma ad esso associata, permetteranno di agevolare la comunicazione e collaborazione tra ospedali e produttori di dispositivi medici attraverso un approccio integrato e basato sulle migliori pratiche, che promuova l’impiego di modelli di Open Innovation Healthcare, e acceleri il processo di trasferimento tecnologico favorendo la continua innovazione dell’ecosistema sanitario.
