This thesis explores the design of Flexible and dynamic neighborhoods for youth and low-income residents, focusing on sustainability. As an international student living in Milan, I faced challenges Finding an affordable housing, a common issue for students and young professionals. This experience inspired my research, which aims to create small, adaptable living units for students, recent graduates, and young professionals. The study addresses the need for neighborhoods that are both inclusive and environmentally sustainable. It develops a design framework that integrates flexible, eco-friendly materials and energy-efficient systems while also prioritizing the reduction of CO2 emissions. Through case studies of successful housing solutions and a conceptual design for a new neighborhood, the research demonstrates how to balance affordability, quality, and environmental impact. The thesis concludes by emphasizing the importance of combining sustainability with social inclusivity in urban design and provides recommendations for future research and practical applications. It highlights strategies for reducing carbon footprints and promoting environmental responsibility in the development of urban communities.
