In sports, although the same result can be achieved, it is impossible to do so in exactly the sa-me way or with the same method more than once. Unlike a mathematical calculation, where applying the same formula always produces the same outcome, in sports the numerous va-riables involved make it extremely difficult to achieve the same result in the same way. This the-sis explores these variables through an in-depth analysis of 10 case studies of global sporting events, including the Olympic Games and FIFA World Cup, to provide insights into the deve-lopment and evolution of these events over the decades. The primary focus is on the Winter Olympics, with a comparison between the Torino 2006 Ga-mes and the upcoming Milano-Cortina 2026 Games. The aim is to understand why, after twen-ty years, it is appropriate to host such a significant event in Italy again and how to implement more effective planning, particularly from the perspective of architectural sustainability. The Torino 2006 Olympics were an important international showcase for Italy, but not without challenges. Political, infrastructural, and economic issues, as well as social impacts, hi-ghlighted both the advantages of hosting an event of such importance and the disadvantages of unbalanced planning, which created a significant gap between the city and the mountains. Now, twenty years later, Milano-Cortina faces an even more complex global context and chal-lenges. Coordination between local and national entities, balancing the modernization of exi-sting facilities with the creation of new ones, and the need to maximize investments while en-suring a positive long-term impact are critical issues. Additionally, community participation and the management of sustainability-related topics are key elements. This study recognizes that the Winter Olympics are not just a celebration of sports but also a test of Italy's ability to tackle complex challenges on many fronts, particularly in architectural infrastructure. Through the analysis of past and present organizational issues, the thesis out-lines a comprehensive view of the intersection between architecture and the organization of world-class events in Italy. The ambitious goal of the thesis is therefore to analyze the various outcome variables of sporting events through sustainable and well-planned programming.
