This thesis aims to bring more clarity to the possible solutions to the feature fatigue problem. The first step consists in the identification of the types of over-featuring practices of the product development process, as they appear in the literature. The second step has the goal to understand which of the identified over-featuring practices have the greatest impact on feature fatigue. Following this analysis, a clear list of terms that identify practices inducing feature fatigue is compiled. These terms are then utilized to conduct a systematic literature review in order to gather all the solutions, techniques, and strategies suggested by other authors up to this point to prevent or avoid these practices. The collected recommendations are then categorized into prevention and remedy themes. These categories are at the basis of the Strategic Integration of Feature Themes (SIFT) methodology. An overview of the most common frameworks (Agile, Stage-Gate, QFD) applied during product development is conducted. Once a clear picture has been drawn, the SIFT themes are utilized to assess the strengths and weaknesses of each framework. The thesis then explores hybrid frameworks and alternative approaches that better align with SIFT’s prevention themes. To conclude the study, the importance of design leadership is explored, and the role of Chief Design Officers (CDOs) in the prevention of feature fatigue is discussed. The thesis provides both theoretical and practical implications of the SIFT methodology, along with suggestions for future research and acknowledgment of limitations.

Abstract
The thesis provides both theoretical and practical implications of the SIFT methodology, along with suggestions for future research and acknowledgment of limitations.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
