The rapid pace of urbanization and industrialization has led to detrimental impacts on the lives of citizens, resulting in the increased compactness of cities and a reduction in available open spaces [1]. This phenomenon underscores the critical need for well-designed urban open spaces, which play a pivotal role in enhancing the well-being and quality of life for citizens across various age groups and demographics [2]. This research places a strong emphasis on the social dimension of public spaces, employing the place attachment framework to investigate and address the challenges arising from urbanization. Focusing on the historic district of Entenanger in the old town of Kassel, this thesis proposes a novel design to provide users with spaces that offer safety, comfort, and satisfaction. The research methodology integrates social factors and sustainability, utilizing the place attachment framework as a guiding principle [3]. Initial data collection involved site visits, examination of old maps, and an exploration of historical information related to Entenanger [4]. This data was further enriched through a comprehensive review of published literature and relevant case studies [5]. The proposed design aims to foster place satisfaction and subsequent attachment to the redesigned space and the post-war transformations, particularly the city of Kassel. By addressing the challenges posed by urbanization through a holistic approach that combines social factors and sustainability within the framework of place attachment, this research aspires to create a transformative impact on the urban landscape, ultimately improving the lives of citizens in the historic district of Entenanger. The positive outcomes extend beyond social health and human well-being to contribute to the overall enhancement of the surrounding environment.
