Progetto di un centro culturale ed educativo con biblioteca rionale, centro per l'infanzia, spazi per associazioni, laboratori per il tempo libero nel quartiere San Siro di Milano, in via Paravia, riutilizzando l'area della ex Cascina Casenuove

The thesis project has the objective of redeveloping the area where there previously was "Cascina Casenuove". The aim is to build a modern public library that includes, apart from the traditional consultation activities, a series of services for the community, covering therefore the roles of a mixed-use building and of a social centre. Among the several services there are conference rooms, areas equipped for the study and the leisure activities of children and kids, a movie room, a small soundproof music studio and classrooms for cooking and art classes. Moreover, a kindergarten has been added to the project, with its own outdoor garden. To realise this specific area, also the last existing building of the old farmstead has been used, in which there are useful spaces for different services and activities. However, these facilities are destined just for small groups of children, due to the limited dimensions of the already existing environment. In addition to the project of the building itself, we focused on giving a new life to the section of via Paravia that lays in front of the lot, converting it into a pedestrian area. As a consequence, the vehicular traffic has been completely eliminated, except for the necessary one to access to the nearby apartment buildings. New green areas with pedestrian and cycle lanes have been designed, with the same geometries and materials of the courtyard, in order to obtain continuity and interaction between the buildings and the surroundings. Inside the development of the thesis project, we began by studying the context through the urban analysis. Then we started to create the idea of the design, firstly by defining the concept for the shapes and positioning of volumes and subsequently by diving into the actual planning and projecting. For the latter, we elaborated the plants and all the other architectural and engineering aspects, including fronts, sections, technological matters, issues regarding the structural, energetic and illuminating properties. For all of the above, we always focused on the realization of a modern building with a great environmental impact.

Il progetto punta alla riqualificazione dell'area in cui sorgeva la Cascina Casenuove. L'obiettivo è quello di realizzare una moderna biblioteca pubblica che includa, oltre alla classica attività di consultazione, una serie di funzioni per la comunità, ricoprendo il ruolo di un centro polifunzionale e di aggregazione sociale. Tra i numerosi servizi previsti vi sono sale riunioni, ambienti attrezzati per il gioco e lo studio di bambini e ragazzi, una sala cinema, una saletta musica insonorizzata, aule per corsi di cucina e attività artistiche. Inoltre è stato inserito un centro per l'infanzia con relativo giardino esterno di pertinenza. Tale destinazione d'uso comprende anche l'unico edificio esistente che era rimasto della vecchia cascina nel quale si trovano dei locali di servizio e spazi fruibili all'occorrenza per attività destinate a piccoli gruppi di bambini, data la dimensione vincolata degli ambienti esistenti. Oltre al progetto dell'edificio, ci siamo concentrati anche sul dare nuova vita alla porzione di via Paravia antistante il lotto, trasformandola in zona pedonale. Pertanto è stato eliminato completamente il traffico veicolare, eccetto quello necessario per l'accesso ai condomini vicini. Sono stati progettati nuovi spazi verdi con percorsi ciclabili e pedonali, disegnati con le geometrie e i medesimi materiali della corte interna al fine di ottenere continuità e interazione tra la struttura dell'edificio e l'ambiente circostante. Nello sviluppo del progetto di tesi siamo partiti dallo studio del contesto tramite l'analisi urbanistica. Poi abbiamo iniziato a creare l'idea di progetto, prima tramite un concept per definire la forma e la disposizione dei volumi, poi entrando più nel vivo della progettazione vera e propria. Per quest'ultima abbiamo elaborato le piante e tutti gli altri aspetti architettonici e ingegneristici quali prospetti, sezioni, pacchetti tecnologici, aspetti strutturali, illuminotecnici ed energetici, sempre nell'intento di ottenere una struttura moderna e di grande impatto scenografico.
