The thesis “Bio-dpanels: ecological sound-absorbing panels for interior architecture” analize how contemporary times require the architect to think deeply about the impact his choices will have on the Planet. Awareness of the raw materials used in a project phase, from walls to paneling, from landscape design to the detailing of an architectural device, is extremely important nowadays. There are many ways to theorize about this issue, but why not experiment and try to understand what can be created from the very root of this need? The Bio-dpanels project is supported by this experimental thesis, which aims to promote and incentivize initiative in the creation of new responses to today’s needs in the field of interior architecture, related from the reuse of resources to the eco-friendliness, from the environment respect to the economic enhancement of the territory: Economic: the project is based on the concept of “circular economy” and recycling. Bio-based: 100% of the experimental product is bio-based, bio-compatible and bio-degradable, in line with today’s requests and requirements issued by the Government, the European Union and more generally by the world community on respect for our Planet through sustainable architecture. Territorial - Made in Italy: private companies, organizations and associations uniquely linked to the Italian territory were part of and actively participated in the project’s economic and future development vision. Following the guiding principles of the circular economy was carried out a study of agricultural and agro-food waste from the Italian territory, passing through an extensive selection based on their properties, which in turn led to various ideas for application in the fields of architecture, construction and design. Through practical experimentation and tests conducted in the Material Testing Laboratory (L.P.M.) of the Politecnico di Milano on the waste materials obtained from the Italian companies that collaborated in the project, a final prototype of sound-absorbing paneling was finally created, composed entirely of ecological material: Bio-dpanels.
