The proposed thesis aims to explore what ‘Volterra “73” was, an experience that originally began as a project of sculptures in the city but soon turned into something different, into a series of interventions in the urban context. ‘Volterra ‘73’ is not simply one of the first examples of artistic-projectual manifestations in urban space in Italy, but represents one of the most vivid attempts to date to overcome the logic of sculpture not connected to the specificity of place. The event, born in a period of great artistic ferment throughout the peninsula, became an opportunity to address dynamics that were controversial in those years, such as the relationship between plastic sign/history, cultural operator/urban space or simply the role of historic centres. From these premises comes the need to recount ‘Volterra “73” as a lucid and conscious promoter of debated and discussed mechanisms destined to change contemporary art. In addition to recalling and collecting documents of ‘Volterra “73”, this thesis aims to contribute to the understanding of the event and its lasting impact on Italian urban art and contemporary culture through an exhibition design. This design solution is proposed for the Centro Pecci in Prato and is intended to offer a unique opportunity to pay homage to this important milestone in the history of Italian art.

Abstract
This design solution is proposed for the Centro Pecci in Prato and is intended to offer a unique opportunity to pay homage to this important milestone in the history of Italian art.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
