Urban waterfronts undergo dynamic transformations through regeneration projects aimed at responding to economic, environmental, and social challenges. Although such projects often showcase successes, they may lead to unforeseen difficulties when essential factors are overlooked. This thesis examines international waterfront projects that have effectively implemented specific urban design strategies, identifying best practices relevant to Alexandria’s unique waterfront context. The study explores the problems and solutions arising from recent developments that have limited public access and changed the character of the waterfront, with particular emphasis on addressing the specific limitations in the Sidi Gaber neighborhood. By assessing existing conditions and identifying key challenges, the study generates a SWOT analysis and proposes a framework of design strategies which is applied through Al Salam Promenade project. In alignment with SDGs, this project integrates sustainable and inclusive urban design strategies, offering an adaptable model for revitalizing waterfronts while meeting community needs. Through these insights, this research presents a framework for urban planners, designers, and policymakers, contributing valuable strategies to waterfront development. The findings aim to inform future initiatives, helping cities balance modernization with cultural preservation and community well-being.

Abstract
The findings aim to inform future initiatives, helping cities balance modernization with cultural preservation and community well-being.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
