Makò Textile Hub: un nuovo polo per il riciclo tessile : progetto per il recupero dell'ex cotonificio Makò a Cordenons

The former Makò cotton mill is located along the course of the Noncello River, within the municipality of Cordenons in the province of Pordenone. After several changes of ownership and the subsequent bankruptcy of some of its owners, the complex now lies in a state of disuse and abandonment, with advanced conditions of decay. Thanks to the analyses carried out, the design theme has been identified, emerging from a careful reading of the territory, both present and past, aimed at understanding its values and potential. The proposed project consists of the redevelopment of the area, taking into account its historical significance, through conservation interventions on the existing structures and the new design of the facilities, with the goal of revitalizing not only the walls and spaces but also the very essence of the architecture. The history of the context, strongly characterized by textile production, its location along the riverbanks, and its close proximity to the town’s historic center, have led to the choice of creating a new hub for textile research. The theme of reusing and recycling clothes and production waste, along with raising awareness among local citizens and businesses in this sector, will serve as a catalyst for its development, also providing new spaces for research, study, and leisure. With this goal in mind, the new textile hub will emerge from the existing architecture, reconnecting it to the territory through activities that also enhance the surrounding landscape, taking into account how these types of spaces are used and the needs of the local population of Cordenons. Through this project, the hope is to establish new channels of communication and collaboration with businesses, creating a new center dedicated to the recovery of clothing, garments, and textile waste, which will become a new point of reference for the community and neighboring areas.

L’ex cotonificio Makò è situato lungo il corso del fiume Noncello, all’interno del comune di Cordenons in provincia di Pordenone. Dopo vari cambi di proprietà ed al successivo fallimento di alcune aziende proprietarie, oggi il complesso versa in uno stato di dismissione e abbandono e presenta condizioni di degrado avanzate. Grazie alle analisi svolte è stato individuato il tema progettuale, nato da una attenta lettura del territorio, odierno e passato, realizzato allo scopo di comprenderne i valori e le potenzialità. Le ipotesi di progetto consistono nella riqualificazione dell’area, tenendo conto del suo valore testimoniale, mediante interventi conservativi sul costruito e sulla nuova progettazione degli impianti, con l’obiettivo di riportare in vita non solo le mura e gli spazi ma l’essenza stessa dell’architettura. La storia del contesto, fortemente connotata dalla produzione tessile, la sua collocazione sulle sponde del fiume e la stretta vicinanza al centro storico del paese hanno contribuito a far ricadere la scelta sulla creazione di un nuovo polo per la ricerca tessile. Sarà proprio il tema del riuso e del riciclo di abiti e scarti di produzione e la sensibilizzazione dei cittadini e delle imprese sul territorio che operano in questo ramo, a funzionare come catalizzatore per il suo sviluppo, offrendo anche nuovi spazi di ricerca, di studio e per il tempo libero. Con questo obiettivo il nuovo textile hub nascerà dalle architetture esistenti, riconnettendole con il territorio attraverso attività in grado di valorizzarne anche le bellezze paesaggistiche in considerazione delle modalità di fruizione di questa tipologia di spazi e delle esigenze della popolazione del territorio di Cordenons. Tramite questo progetto si auspica la nascita di nuovi canali di comunicazione e collaborazione con le imprese, la formazione di un nuovo polo dedicato al recupero di abiti, indumenti e scarti tessili in grado di diventare un nuovo punto di riferimento per la comunità e per le realtà limitrofe.
