This dissertation proposes a socio-spatial intervention that seeks to improve the public space of the City of Lyon. The core objective of this architectural/urban/social research is to address the issue of vacant and neglected spaces within a historical city, focusing on four specific cases within the La Croix-Rousse district. These spaces include the former building of the École des Beaux-Arts de Lyon, the Église du Bon Pasteur, the Amphithéâtre des Trois Gaules, and the former Jardin des Plantes. The aim is to propose innovative strategies for their reappropriation, reactivation, and rejuvenation always in views of an architecture of participation. This investigation will also propose a re-qualification of the figure of the architect following the theory and experience developed by a number of authors during the second half of the twentieth century and beginning of twenty-first. The professional’s role will be then reconfigured into an actor who mediates between the needs and interests of the community, the state, and potential stakeholders, while depersonalising his own figure as the direct creator of the object in question, and enabling the direct action and execution of future users. By getting engaged in the revitalization process, they will cultivate their sense of ownership and responsibility for these spaces, ensuring their sustainability and continued contribution to the well-being of their contextual built-environment. The overall objectives put the focus on a basis for urban improvement at neighbourhood level, in favour of a new social empowerment and against the gentrification and globalization trends.

Abstract
The overall objectives put the focus on a basis for urban improvement at neighbourhood level, in favour of a new social empowerment and against the gentrification and globalization trends.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
