S.A.F.F.A.: from factory to City : designing new urban relations

The research explores the dilemma of disused spaces in the built environment, as part of a large urban network. The case of the metropolitan city of Milan presents an urban context defined by its urban relationships and its heritage as a hub for industrial production. The disused industrial space belongs to a regional network, making it a part of a whole. The future of these spaces must offer hybrid solutions to the issues of identity, functionality, and sustainability to be urban elements within the city fabric. This experiment is developed through the site of the ex. S.A.F.F.A. factory in Ponte Nuovo, in the city of Magenta. The project confronts the necessities and problems of a disused industrial site in a non-central location, investigating the relationship between the urban fabric and spaces for production.

La ricerca esplora il dilemma degli spazi in disuso nell’ambiente costruito, come parte di una vasta rete urbana. Il caso della città metropolitana di Milano presenta un contesto urbano definito dalle sue relazioni urbane e dal suo patrimonio come polo di produzione industriale. Lo spazio industriale dismesso appartiene a una rete regionale, rendendolo parte di un tutto. Il futuro di questi spazi deve offrire soluzioni ibride alle problematiche di identità, funzionalità e sostenibilità per diventare elementi urbani all'interno del tessuto cittadino. Questo esperimento si sviluppa attraverso il sito dell'ex fabbrica S.A.F.F.A. a Ponte Nuovo, nella città di Magenta. Il progetto affronta le necessità e i problemi di un sito industriale in disuso in una posizione non centrale, indagando la relazione tra il tessuto urbano e gli spazi per la produzione.
