This study examines the organizational impacts of equity crowdfunding (ECF) campaigns on startups, with a specific focus on the Italian entrepreneurial landscape. By comparing data from two samples of 507 startups in total, including both ECFbacked firms and similar firms without such funding, the research evaluates the impact of crowdfunding on headcount growth, employee turnover, management structure, and departmental composition. Significant findings reveal that engaging in a crowdfunding campaign triggers some organizational changes: ECF-backed startups experience larger headcount expansion by 19% more than firms without such funding. Moreover, this development predominantly occurs in customer-focused departments like Marketing and Sales, rather than innovation-driven areas such as R&D. However, the expected leadership transformations, such as CEO replacements, were limited, underscoring ECF’s distinct impact compared to traditional financing models like venture capital.

Abstract
However, the expected leadership transformations, such as CEO replacements, were limited, underscoring ECF’s distinct impact compared to traditional financing models like venture capital.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
