On urbanization and building construction : a discussion on Istanbul

This thesis, after providing a general definition of urbanization in the world, examines urbanization in Istanbul, the factors affecting urbanization, and the relation between the construction methods of the existing buildings in Istanbul and urbanization. In particular, the negative effects of reinforced concrete buildings that were built after the mid-20th century, as a result of rapid urbanization, on Istanbul and the steps and solution suggestions that can be taken to minimize these negative effects are also discussed. Similarly, unconventional suggestions for the buildings being constructed today and suggestions on how these buildings can enable more sustainable urbanization are also discussed.

Questa tesi, dopo aver fornito una definizione generale di urbanizzazione nel mondo, esamina l'urbanizzazione a Istanbul, i fattori che influenzano l'urbanizzazione e la relazione tra i metodi di costruzione degli edifici esistenti a Istanbul e l'urbanizzazione. In particolare, vengono discussi anche gli effetti negativi degli edifici in cemento armato costruiti dopo la metà del XX secolo, come risultato della rapida urbanizzazione, su Istanbul e i passaggi e i suggerimenti di soluzioni che possono essere adottati per ridurre al minimo questi effetti negativi. Allo stesso modo, vengono discussi anche suggerimenti non convenzionali per gli edifici in costruzione oggi e suggerimenti su come questi edifici possano consentire un'urbanizzazione più sostenibile.
