La ricostruzione di Aleppo: progetto per il rilancio economico e sociale del centro storico della città

When speaking of Aleppo, two spontaneous associations arise. On one hand, the more recent one: “war”; on the other, an ancient symbolic phrase that invariably accompanies any mention of this city: “the oldest continuously inhabited city in the world.” Two images, which contradict each other, but have long shaped the perception of the city. This thesis, set in the aftermath of a war that lasted for years and destroyed numerous parts of the city, and an earthquake that caused further destruction, aims to present a proposal for the reconstruction of the ancient city of Aleppo, characterized by a dense fabric of khans, souks, and mosques near the ancient citadel.

Quando si parla di Aleppo sorgono due associazioni spontanee, da una parte, quella più recente: “guerra”, dall’altra un’antica frase simbolo, che in qualsiasi lettura segue in inciso questa città: “la città più antica ininterrottamente abitata nel mondo”. Due immagini, che si negano tra di loro, ma che per lungo tempo hanno accompagnato l’immagine della città. Questa tesi, che si colloca temporalmente dopo una guerra durata per anni, che ha distrutto numerose parti di città, e un terremoto, che ha contribuito a maggiore distruzione, si propone di restituire una proposta di ricostruzione della città antica di Aleppo, caratterizzata da un tessuto denso di khan, suq e moschee, in prossimità dell’antica cittadella.
