Via Gaiato, 168 : living experience between art and nature in Appennino Modenese

After a careful analysis of the Modena Apennines and, more precisely, of the territory of Frignano, both from a historical point of view (specifically, regarding the defensive system and the forms of architecture developed over the centuries) and a current one (investigating the proposals that the area itself offers), this research aims to recover and subsequently insert into a tourist-cultural network a rural building from the 15th century, called La Ca', located in Gaiato, a hamlet of the municipality of Pavullo nel Frignano. Considering the information emerged from the investigations, the mountainous area of Frignano appears as populated district, among the different kind of users, also by numerous tourists coming mainly from the neighbouring provinces, but also from outside Italy. They are attracted by the abundant opportunities that this district provides, both regarding the artistic-cultural aspect and the naturalistic-sportif one. The restoration of a traditional ancient and currently uninhabited building, through a project proposal that aims to transform it into a place of rest and aggregation, ensures that it is returned to an open, community usability, becoming an opportunity and response to questions and needs arose from the comparison with reality. The theme of living was the starting point for the development of a project for the reuse of spaces that are part of the historical nucleus. This paper sets out two ways of approaching the "domestic" habitat: permanent living and temporary living. These are expressed in Headquarters for artists (including spaces dedicated to the exhibition of the works produced and to conviviality/conferences etc.) and hospitality for tourists (in particular, given the location of the chosen architectural asset, lovers of nature and slow mobility).

Dopo un'attenta analisi dell’Appennino modenese e, precisamente, del territorio del Frignano, sia dal punto di vista storico (per ciò che concerne, nello specifico, il sistema difensivo e le forme di architetture sviluppatisi nei secoli) che attuale (indagando le proposte che il territorio stesso offre), questa ricerca ha come obiettivo il recupero e il successivo inserimento in una rete turistico-culturale di un edificio rurale del XV secolo, denominato La Ca', sito in Gaiato, frazione del comune di Pavullo nel Frignano. Alla luce delle informazioni emerse dalle indagini, la zona montuosa frignanese risulta un’area frequentata, tre le diverse tipologie di utenti, anche da numerosi turisti provenienti principalmente dalle province limitrofe, ma anche da fuori dall’Italia. Questi sono attratti dalle copiose opportunità che questo distretto fornisce, sia per quanto riguarda l’aspetto artistico-culturale che quello naturalistico-sportivo. Il ripristino di un tradizionale edificio antico e attualmente non abitato, attraverso una proposta progettuale che mira a renderlo un luogo di sosta e aggregazione, fa sì che questo venga restituito a una fruibilità aperta, comunitaria, divenendo possibilità e risposta a domande ed esigenze che si riscontrano dal confronto con la realtà. Il tema dell'abitare è stato il punto di partenza per lo sviluppo di un progetto di riutilizzo degli spazi facenti parte del nucleo storico. Questo elaborato espone due modi di approccio all'habitat "domestico": abitare permanente e abitare temporaneo. Queste si declinano in Headquarter per artisti (comprensivo di ambienti dedicati all'esposizione delle opere prodotte e alla convivialità/conferenze ecc.) e ospitalità per turisti (in particolare, data l'ubicazione del bene architettonico scelto, amanti della natura e della mobilità lenta).
