This thesis examines the relationship between light, space, and perception through an analysis of art installations, such as Olafur Eliasson’s The Weather Project and Walter De Maria’s The Lightning Field, alongside additional case studies like James Turrell's Dividing the Light, Erased Studio's C&T Wedding, Phillip K. Smith III's Lucid Stead, Olafur Eliasson's Contact. These projects help show how light shapes people's experience and manipulate how people see their surroundings. The research also includes a design toolkit based on these installations, which focuses on framing light, working with natural elements, and creating experiences that engage mutiple senses. The design project, The Layers of Perception, is an immersive installation located in Merzouga, Morroco, which is inspired by the concepts explored in the research. By moving through different layers of the installation, people can explore how light and space interacts, and how their perception changes. It leads to the result of exploration their connection to themselves, to others, and to the world.
