This thesis investigates the role of sustainability certifications in promoting environmental and social responsibility in the industrial sector, with a particular focus on the case of Pirelli. The study analyses the Voluntary Sustainability Standards (VSSs) highlighting their characteristics, strengths and weaknesses, and their contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In particular, the FSC, ISCC, and RSCI certifications, the ISO 14021 standard, and the RBA scheme are examined. The application of these certifications within Pirelli has been analyzed through detailed case studies, highlighting corporate strategies, certification processes and the integration of sustainable practices. The findings underline the importance of certifications in fostering responsible development, while analyzing their issues, and offering insights into their implications for the entire sector.
Questa tesi indaga il ruolo delle certificazioni di sostenibilità nella promozione della responsabilità ambientale e sociale nel settore industriale, con particolare attenzione al caso di Pirelli. Lo studio analizza gli Standard Volontari di Sostenibilità (VSSs) evidenziandone le caratteristiche, i punti di forza e di debolezza, e il loro contributo agli Obiettivi di Sviluppo Sostenibile (SDGs). In particolare, vengono esaminate le certificazioni FSC, ISCC, RSCI, lo standard ISO 14021 e lo schema RBA. L’applicazione di queste certificazioni all’interno di Pirelli è stata analizzata attraverso casi studio dettagliati, mettendo in luce le strategie aziendali, i processi di certificazione e l'integrazione di pratiche sostenibili. I risultati sottolineano l'importanza delle certificazioni nel favorire uno sviluppo responsabile, analizzandone al contempo le problematiche, e offrendo spunti sulle loro implicazioni per l’intero settore.
