This study examines how Italian Benefit Corporations interpret sustainability objectives in relation to their common benefit objectives, analyzing the degree to which they integrate sustainability into their business models and the strategies adopted to align the pursuit of common benefit with corporate management. The research is based on a qualitative approach combining the analysis of existing literature with semi structured interviews conducted on a sample of Italian Benefit Corporations. The extension of Landrum's Sustainability Maturity Model allowed to identify a new Benefit Model for self-assessment that allows to classify the degree of corporate maturity, offering insights for conscious improvements towards more regenerative approaches. The results show that Benefit Corporations consider sustainability not only as a set of operational practices, but as a founding element of their corporate purpose. However, the level of integration varies: some companies adopt a weak approach based on regulatory compliance, while others move towards advanced models where sustainability and common benefit are fully embedded in corporate governance and strategies. This study contributes to the debate on corporate sustainability and hybrid business models by providing an empirical perspective on how Italian Benefit Corporations integrate sustainability goals into their strategies. Contributing to the academic debate on sustainability integration models, this research offers significant insights into the potential of Benefit Corporations in completely redefining the concept of corporate sustainability, by turning it into the main driver of corporate growth. The study emphasizes the importance of aligning common benefit purposes with sustainability strategies and provides a perspective on how companies can leverage this tool to evolve towards more impactful, purpose-driven operations.

Abstract
The study emphasizes the importance of aligning common benefit purposes with sustainability strategies and provides a perspective on how companies can leverage this tool to evolve towards more impactful, purpose-driven operations.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
